Buffy The Vampire Slayer And Angel Are Getting Kicked off
Many times I've wrestled with whether to dive into a new film or series offered by Netflix, only to once again dive into an old standby I know won't let me down. In times of doubt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and the Buffy The Vampire Slayer gang ease my mind when I'm too scared to commit to a series, and now those days are coming to an end. Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel are both getting the boot from Netflix.
The bad news is you only have 10 more days to binge Buffy The Vampire Slayer before it's gone from Netflix. Come April 1st, the show will disappear and you'll feel forced into purchasing high-priced collector's box sets if you ever want to dive into the world of Sunnydale and its weirdness. The good news is that if you start now, skip the intro music (which I rarely do because it's awesome), and end credits you can watch the entire series in 6 days time. As far as Angel is concerned you'd need about 4 days and 14 hours which would put you just short of the deadline. Curse you Netflix for not letting us know sooner!
Both Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel will be part of the mass exodus of Joss Whedon shows being removed from the service. In addition to those two iconic shows, both Dollhouse and Firefly will be making their exit as well. While it seems like Joss Whedon is getting some tough love from Netflix, actor David Boreanaz is getting hit the hardest with Bones getting pulled from the service too. If this is some elaborate April Fools Day joke Netflix, you can tell us now!
All hope is not lost, however, as you can still stream Buffy The Vampire Slayer. While the show will be leaving Netflix, it is still listed as streaming on Hulu and all lists for April streaming seem to indicate the show is safe for now. The same goes for Angel and Firefly, so we can all stop breathing into that paper bag and thinking back to all the time we wasted not streaming these amazing shows and return to ignoring them. Don't be too concerned if you don't have Hulu and can't rewatch the series, as Joss Whedon says there's nothing like the first time you experience it anyway.
While it sucks to see Netflix slowly shed more and more of the iconic shows we love for new shows and programs, it's hard to say no to all the new stuff on the horizon. If you're going to make me choose between a '90s series I haven't watched in years vs. Stranger Things Season 2, we all know what I'm going to pick. Speaking of which, you can keep up with our new shows via our midseason premiere guide, and if that doesn't get you excited enough to get over losing Buffy and Angel, head over to our Summer premiere schedule for a double dose to ease the pain.
